Director of Business Development
Position Summary
The Director of Business Development will work for Cayuga Marketing, LLC and will liaison between fellow team members, the farm membership, and industry stakeholders. The primary purpose of this role is to provide business support to ensure the successful achievement of business objectives. Contribute to the development of short- and mid-term business strategies and initiatives designed to deliver profitable growth with a member and customer-focused mindset. Coordinate with other team members to execute initiatives for Cayuga Marketing.
Director of Business Development Responsibilities
- Serve as a liaison between Cayuga Marketing and its stakeholders.
- Develop intermediate and long-range marketing plans, working closely with transportation/logistics, membership, sustainability, and accounting personnel.
- Evaluate and track the supply and demand between members and the sales agreements with customers.
- Assist in creating marketing strategies to support weekly sales to existing customers.
- Create customer scorecards to track and present KPIs and other metrics.
- Provide support to managers and staff to ensure the successful completion of departmental communications projects.
- Maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly reports relating to various KPIs.
- Measure and communicate results of business processes and advise methods for performance improvements across all areas of operations.
- Run cost analyses for premiums and track the various financial programs for members and customers.
- Develop cost-saving strategies in line with milk marketing guidelines and support the accounting team during the monthly invoicing process.
- Collect, analyze, and report data to assist with market research projects and study industry trends. Make recommendations based on research findings and conclusions.
- Build, create, and maintain models and reports for projecting future milk supplies and demands.
- Research market conditions and federal order provisions and data on a local, regional, and national level. Prepare and submit reports and recommend actions based on findings.
- Analyze performance data for the purpose of enhancing customer service levels.
- Extract, collect, and modify data from internal and external systems to enhance decision-making in fluid milk marketing, customer service performance, and hauler performance.
- Provide support to market research, communications, member services, accounting, and general management through data analysis, publication writing, and presentation development.
- Assist in the collection, analysis, and reporting in the area of pooling with the federal orders relating to production and sales. Provide pooling strategy and recommendations and generate and distribute monthly pooling reports.
- Research trends in supply and demand to assist in the development of forecasting and budgeting.
- Monitor the progress of deliveries from origin to delivery to the customer.
- Work with and support the transportation division to understand hauling costs and milk movements.
- Manage and maintain the company’s Non-GMO (NGMO) project verification status by working with NGMO member farms to collect and audit records.

Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, or related curriculum with a minimum of three years of experience required (or equivalent combination of experience and education).
- Agriculture, food, or dairy experience preferred.
- Understanding of Federal Milk Marketing Orders and Milk Pricing is desired.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Able and willing to learn new tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, for a diverse range of internal and external audiences.
- Able to interact effectively with a wide range of people in business and social settings.
- Able to bring a project from conception to completion and adhere to steps and timelines.
- Possess the ability to work independently with multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid NYS Driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.

Director of Ingredient Sales
Position Summary
The Director of Ingredient Sales is responsible for assisting with sales of all dairy ingredients at Cayuga Milk Ingredients, LLC. Cayuga Milk Ingredients is a B2B supplier, thus the incumbent will assist with negotiations of both small and multi-national food companies. CMI’s ingredients include bulk cream, liquid permeate, non-fat dry milk, skim milk powder, milk protein concentrates and milk protein isolates. The incumbent will be part of the sales team reporting to the Vice President of Sales and Marketing, which work in concert with plant production staff. The position location will be determined through discussions with the successful candidate.
Director of Ingredient Sales Responsibilities
- Assist in developing strategy to help achieve domestic sales targets outlined by the company.
- Develop and implement innovative techniques to increase sales of products as well as create markets for existing products.
- Develop an excellent knowledge of company’s products, pricing practices, and selling techniques.
- Develop an effective direct and/or broker/trader sales coverage program with the VP of Sales and Marketing
- Develop an effective contract pricing program with the VP of Sales and Marketing for markets and customers CMI services.
- Obtain a comprehensive understanding of our facilities and their capabilities.
- Complete annual budgeting activities.
- Identify target customers and rank based on criteria.
- Track and report on volume levels vs. plan and prior year. – Complete a quarterly review of all accounts.
- Manage direct sales and broker sales within the CMI markets.
- Develop a strategic sales and pricing plan for the product lines CMI sells and maximize the current markets to gain most margin on the products.
- Lead strategy sessions and prepare all communication for strategy meetings held quarterly by the Ingredients Division.
- Lead all sales communication on weekly conference calls for staff and assigned sales.
- Manage all responsible sales expenses to within budgeted levels.
- Manage all responsible quotes to maintain margins within budgeted levels.
- Propose and communicate all recommended pricing changes for the product lines and gain approval from the VP of Sales and Marketing.
- Work closely with the customer service team to be sure dispute resolutions are being handled in a timely manner.
- Stay up to date on market trends and attend selected seminars and trade shows to promote the Company and develop targeted marketing strategies. Effectively coordinate and communicate activities with other functional areas.
- Understand and abide by risk management policy as part pricing strategies deployed. Will work with VP Sales and Marketing on weekly risk management plan.

QA Laboratory Technician
Position Summary
Perform laboratory/quality functions by testing, collecting data, and analyzing findings on raw materials, ingredients and finished goods. Comply with NY State Ag & Markets, FDA, USDA, and GMP policies. Carry out special projects as required. Perform all tasks in a safe manner to ensure achievement of quality, service, and cost objectives. Comply with all standard operating procedures and requirements as directed under standard methods for laboratory procedures.
QA Laboratory Technician Responsibilities
- Prepare in-process and finished product samples.
- Perform analytical testing using instrumental and wet chemistry procedures.
- Enter and report data using established a laboratory procedures.
- Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance related to all lab instrumentation.
- Maintain proper inventory levels of all laboratory supplies.
- Clean glassware and required equipment throughout the entire lab environment.
- Analyze incoming ingredients, blends, and finished product to meet specifications.
- Perform microbiological analysis on finished product, incoming ingredients and environmental swabbing.
- Collect microbiological and shelf-life samples.
- Monitor and inspect production lines to ensure that quality and package integrity are within specifications.
- Complete all documentation associated with quality checks and QC daily reports.
- Ability to research historical data when required and report findings.
- Work with engineering, production and sanitation personnel to trouble-shoot quality related issues when they arise.
- Communicate technical and analytical data using reports, charts, graphs, etc. as required.
- Prioritize assignments and independently manage time to satisfy business needs.
- Demonstrate an understanding of quality and generate corrective action requests and document change requests.
- Complete and manage QC and production generated paperwork.
- Place raw materials and finished product on hold when required.
- Monitor sorting of hold product as needed.
- Monitor and assist with the management all quality checks performed by production.
- Set up analytical equipment and perform required daily calibrations.
- Prepare standard solutions and reagents as required.
- Utilize proper chemical handling procedures.
- Maintain laboratory in a safe and organized condition at all times.
- Maintain equipment and area cleanliness to ensure compliance with all GMP standards.
- Assist processing and production personnel as required.
- Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
Position Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Food Technology, Dairy Science, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology or Engineering is preferred. This position requires a person with strong knowledge and experience in lab testing programs, regulatory compliance, food safety, labeling requirements and processing standards as applied to the dairy manufacturing industry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Excel.
- Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
- Familiarity with Windows based programs.
- Ability to perform basic laboratory skills in a safe manner.
- Familiarity with basic lab equipment and glassware.

- Ability to work independently or within a group with minimal supervision.
- Ability to detect color changes in chemical testing procedures.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts or other work schedules as determined by business needs, including overtime as required.
- Must be certified on the training plan for this position within six months of start date.
Candidate should be familiar with operating standard lab equipment (i.e., pH meter, balances and spectrophotometer). - Prior experience with advanced analytical techniques (GC, HPLC) is ideal but not mandatory.
- Working knowledge of GMP, FDA, SQF and other regulatory requirements helpful.
Working Conditions
Majority of work is performed in the lab and on the production floor with extended periods of standing. Work involves exposure to temperature extremes, high noise levels, wetness, heights, dust, moving equipment, vibrations and vapors.
Equipment Used
Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to safety glasses, steel-toed shoes and hearing protection. Common laboratory equipment, including but not limited to, electronic balances, colorimeters, torque testers, autoclaves, fume hoods, pH meters, autotitrators, spectrophotometers, distillation equipment, density meters, turbidimeters, refractometers, water baths, calcium meters, stirrers, centrifuges, ovens, vacuum pumps, timers, micro colony counters, BacT/Alert equipment, ATP swabbing equipment, and incubators. In addition, personal computers with associated software and common office equipment are used.
